West Gate Tunnel

Project Overview

The West Gate Tunnel Project is monumental, delivering a vital alternative to the West Gate Bridge, providing quicker and safer journeys, and removing thousands of trucks off residential streets. 

The project includes widening the West Gate Freeway from 8-12 lanes between the M80 and the West Gate Bridge, the construction of twin tunnels from the West Gate Freeway to the Maribyrnong River, and a bridge over the river linked to an elevated roadway running along Footscray Road.

Project Scope

Since 2017, our team has been providing specialist commercial support to the project, starting from the initial engagement to achieve financial close. As the project progressed, we have continued to offer valuable procurement and commercial support services, consistently ensuring that the project remains on track and within budget.

Our team has taken on a crucial role in the project's development, having supported it from the commencement of early works through to delivery. Throughout this period, we have taken full ownership of developing, issuing, and administering a significant portion of the project's larger package subcontracts. These subcontracts include critical areas such as ITS, OMCS and critical system procurement management, bulk supply for TBM and ongoing operations, 220KV relocation planning and execution over Westgate Freeway, and utility scope development, including contestable works delivery.

MBBs contributions have extended beyond procurement and commercial support services. We have played a vital role in the project's success by providing essential support in schedule management, cost estimating and budgeting, and claims and executive escalations. Our involvement in these areas has ensured that the project remains on schedule, within budget, and meets the project's desired outcomes.
