Introducing Quantity Surveyor Doug Lawrence

Meet Doug Lawrence, one of our talented team of experienced Quantity Surveyors, based in Melbourne. Doug is a highly valued member of our commercial and contracts advisory team at MBB Consulting.

Doug has carried out a number of roles in MBB, including most recently being embedded into the procurement team for the Gippsland Line Upgrade Alliance project (part of the Regional Rail Revival Program).  Prior to that, Doug was embedded into the tendering team for the successful SPARK Consortium on the North East Link project.

Doug is highly experienced and knowledgeable in all aspects of measurement, valuation and procurement processes, including during pre-tender, cost planning, procurement stage activities, post-award, contract administration and contract completion.

Previously, Doug worked in a Quantity Surveying practice, providing measurement and valuation services upon some of Australia’s most challenging infrastructure projects during that time, including Brisbane’s Airport’s Kingsford Smith Drive and Cross River Rail projects, Sydney’s WestConnex M5 project and Gold Coast’s Light Rail Stage 2 project.  Prior to that he also worked on some major New Zealand infrastructure projects including Transmission Gully Motorway project and the Gateway Upgrade North project .

Doug is a personable, highly motivated, and extremely capable individual with a keen eye for detail and we appreciate all of your hard work Doug, you’ve been a great addition to the MBB team.

A little more about Doug

Where I’m from

Originally born in South Africa but moved to Brisbane. Decided a change in scenery was required so moved to Melbourne for a at the start of 2020.

Outside interests & hobbies

Interested in most things sport, being outdoors and exploring different parts of Victoria when I have the chance, and improving my knowledge of wine and gin when I get the chance.

Sport & Sporting events

I currently still play Aussie Rules for a team in the VFL. That takes up most of my time outside of the office but recently completed a triathlon for the first time which was good fun. Definitely see myself training for future ones once I hang the boots up.

What inspired you to become a QS/Contracts Professional?

Fell into it through family friends when I decided exercise physiology wasn’t for me.

What do you love about the industry & the work you do?

The diversity that each day can bring. Construction is an enormous industry with so many sectors and offshoots within it and being a QS lets you cover more of those different facets than other construction professions.

What I enjoy most about working at MBB is the environment. There is a great balance between being given the autonomy to fully dive into your role and develop as an individual whilst being able to lean on a fully supportive and collaborative team who are driven and push each other to succeed.
